Javad Zarepour, CEO of Petrofarhang Holding, said the initiative
includes orders for methanol synthesis catalysts, ultra-heavy methanol
reactors, heat exchangers, and secondary reformers. “This achievement reflects
the confidence in local engineers and specialists, which is now embedded in the
culture of the holding. It sets a new horizon for Iran’s petrochemical
industry,” he stated.
Zarepour highlighted that 24 of these process equipment items were
ordered from domestic knowledge-based companies and suppliers for the Dena
(Phase 2 of Sabalan Petrochemical) and Siraf Energy projects. “This prevented
the outflow of significant hard currency,” he added.
The equipment, weighing approximately 3,500 tons, was manufactured by
Machine Sazi Arak. To date, 16 units have been delivered and installed, while
four are en route to Assaluyeh, and the remaining four are scheduled for
completion by year-end.
Petrofarhang has also taken a pioneering role in producing a
nationally developed methanol synthesis catalyst, Zarepour noted. This
catalyst, previously imported at a high cost, is now produced locally,
achieving self-sufficiency. With 12 methanol-producing companies operating or
under development in Iran, the initiative is expected to save millions of
dollars annually, which can be redirected toward supporting domestic
knowledge-based enterprises and strengthening industrial independence.
Zarepour also announced progress in localizing the acetylene
hydrogenation catalyst, previously imported from abroad. The catalyst is now
being co-produced by an Iranian knowledge-based company and Morvarid
Petrochemical, aiming to fulfill domestic demand and reduce currency outflows.
Additionally, the production of ethylene oxide catalysts and
industrial wastewater treatment packages for Morvarid and Kimia Petrochemical
Companies by Iranian manufacturers underscores the holding’s commitment to
sustaining this national self-reliance movement.
The initiative reflects Iran’s broader efforts to strengthen its
industrial capabilities and reduce dependency on foreign suppliers amid ongoing
economic challenges.
