The agreement, announced on Thursday, seeks to encourage the public to
cut their energy usage by offering a reward of 400 billion rials to consumers
who successfully reduce their consumption by 10%. The petrochemical companies
will provide the necessary financial resources to support the initiative.
In a ceremony marking the signing, Tavakoli, NIGC CEO, expressed
gratitude for NPC’s cooperation in the large-scale national effort.
He noted the success of the pilot project in Khorasan Razavi province,
which has paved the way for nationwide implementation. The initiative is
expected to not only reduce energy consumption but also redirect saved gas to
create added value for industries.
"By working together with the National Petrochemical Company, we
can help ensure that gas saved in this program is channeled into the industrial
sector to create more value," Tavakoli said.
Collaborative Efforts to Manage Energy Imbalance
Tavakoli emphasized that improving energy consumption patterns in
winter is a practical solution to managing energy imbalance, stating that many
countries globally adopt similar measures. "As our gas consumption now
exceeds production levels, we must implement restrictions in energy-intensive
sectors to avoid disruptions to household supplies," he explained.
Industry and Public Partnership for Energy Conservation
Hassan Abbaszadeh, CEO of NPC, expressed appreciation for the efforts
of both the NIGC and its employees in managing energy supplies, especially
during cold weather. He underlined the importance of cooperation across
industries to prevent major disruptions.
"We believe that working together across industries can prevent
significant harm to both sectors and the general public," Abbaszadeh
stated.
He also acknowledged the positive results from reducing gas use in the
petrochemical sector and stressed that industries must be protected from any
potential negative side effects of fuel supply limitations.
“We must recognize that we are all part of one system. The
restrictions are in the best interest of the people and the country, and we
must fully implement these guidelines,” he added.
Abbaszadeh further encouraged citizens to join the energy-saving campaign,
including reducing household temperatures by 2 degrees, which would contribute
to sustaining industrial production and help ensure the uninterrupted service
to the public.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the CEOs of both companies
confirmed that the practical steps for implementing the energy-saving
initiative would begin promptly.
