In a recent meeting of the specialized working group on energy for olefin
and polymer complexes, Morteza Shahmirzaei emphasized the importance of energy
management in production processes.
"Energy consumption indicators in Iran are not
satisfactory," Shahmirzaei said, adding, "We must minimize energy
consumption by optimizing processes through rationality and technology,
leveraging the capabilities of scientific, research, and knowledge-based
centers."
Highlighting the strategic importance of process optimization and the
efficient performance of equipment by industry specialists, Shahmirzaei stated,
"Energy management plays a crucial role in this context, and we must
consider the economic and social impacts of flared gas emissions."
Shahmirzaei stressed that increasing production by completing the
value chain should be accompanied by a reduction in energy intensity. "In
the near future, flared gases might become a leverage point for Western
pressures on our country, so we must take significant actions in this
area," he warned.
Emphasizing the importance of knowledge sharing and efficient resource
use, Shahmirzaei remarked, "Efficient and economical resource consumption
has been part of our culture for a long time. We need to delve deeper and move
towards optimal use of existing resources while considering higher efficiency."
The mandate underscores the strategic move by the NPC to align with
global energy efficiency standards and mitigate potential geopolitical and
environmental risks associated with excessive energy consumption and flaring
practices.
This directive aligns with Iran's broader goals of sustainable
development and economic resilience, ensuring that the petrochemical sector can
maintain competitive and environmentally responsible production practices.
