Morteza Shahmirzaei provided insights into the current state of Iran's
petrochemical industry, stating that the installed capacity stands at a
formidable 92 million tons, with actual production at a commendable 72 million
tons. However, he highlighted that the actual production figures often deviate
from the installed capacity due to factors such as industry expansion, supply
chain challenges, economic fluctuations, and extensive maintenance projects. In
2021, Iran's petrochemical industry successfully delivered 65.4 million tons
despite these complexities.
Shahmirzaei elaborated on the year 2022, explaining that, due to
significant maintenance activities and winter supply challenges in more than 22
provinces with cold climates, the industry, despite an installed capacity of
nearly 90 million tons, achieved an actual production of around 70 million
tons.
The NPC CEO also revealed that the country currently produces
approximately 8.8 million tons of polymers. According to the 7th development
plan, polymer production capacity is set to surge to a staggering 19 million
tons, with all expansion endeavors being undertaken by the private sector.
This ambitious growth trajectory underscores Iran's commitment to the
petrochemical sector's development, positioning the nation as a significant
player in the global polymer market in the coming years.
