TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- The petrochemical industry in Iran is considered one of the largest and most prominent industries globally, with a strong commitment to scientific principles and international safety standards. The CEO of the National Petrochemical Company highlighted the ongoing development of a strategic plan for the industry's expansion in the thirteenth government.

During the 8th National Chemical Defense Conference, Morteza Shahmirzai emphasized the nature and sensitivity of the oil, gas, refining, and petrochemical industries, stating that the slightest disregard for safety principles or carelessness in the operations and processing of certain chemicals in these industries can lead to accidents.

He stressed the doubled importance of enforcing chemical defense regulations and measures, especially in the downstream sector, including the petrochemical industry.

Shahmirzai added, "The National Petrochemical Company has implemented stringent regulations in operational areas of the petrochemical industry since the past."

The CEO mentioned that around 550 grades of polymer and petrochemical products are produced in 70 active petrochemical complexes across the country. He affirmed that all chemical substances manufactured in the petrochemical industry are strictly dedicated to industrial applications and contribute to human progress and well-being.

Shahmirzai highlighted that the petrochemical production and complexes undergo regular monitoring by international bodies. He stated, "Iran's petrochemical industry is one of the largest worldwide, adhering to scientific principles and international safety standards."

He further described the installed capacity of Iran's petrochemical industry, estimated at approximately 92 million tons annually. Shahmirzai stated, "The management of Iran's petrochemical industry is carried out through the guidance and policies of the National Petrochemical Company, in collaboration with the holdings, investors, and shareholders who strictly adhere to safety regulations."

The Deputy Minister of Petroleum emphasized that despite sanctions and limitations, over 100 small and large petrochemical projects are currently being implemented in the country. He added, "By the end of the seventh development plan, the installed capacity of Iran's petrochemical industry is projected to reach approximately 135 million tons per year."

Shahmirzai reiterated that all quantitative and qualitative indicators of the eighth development plan have been defined, ensuring that by the end of the plan, the installed capacity of Iran's petrochemical industry will be twice its current capacity, with a complete range of polymer and petrochemical products that are globally recognized.

He emphasized that in such a vast industry with development programs, chemical defense, including fundamental principles, is a crucial aspect considered in the planning and execution of petrochemical projects.

The CEO of the National Petrochemical Company stated, "A 20-year vision for the petrochemical industry is currently being drafted to determine the direction and position the industry should strive for."

Shahmirzai confirmed that the strategic plan for Iran's petrochemical industry in the thirteenth government is being fully developed.
