TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- A senior adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader and a member of the Expediency Council visited a major oil and petrochemical exhibition in Tehran on Friday and met with the head of the national petrochemical company.

Ali Agha Mohammadi, who leads the economic group of the Leader's office, toured the 27th Iran International Oil, Gas, Refining and Petrochemical Exhibition (Iran Oil Show) and discussed the latest developments and future plans of Iran's petrochemical industry with Morteza Shahmirzai, deputy petroleum minister and CEO of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC).

Iran is one of the world's largest producers of petrochemicals, which are used to make plastics, fertilisers, paints and other products. The country has been expanding its petrochemical capacity despite U.S. sanctions that have hampered its oil exports.

The exhibition, which started on Wednesday and will end on Saturday, is the most important event for Iran's oil industry and has attracted 200 foreign companies from 13 countries.

Mohammadi also met with the CEO of Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (PGPIC), one of the largest petrochemical holding companies in Iran and a major investor and developer in the sector.
