TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Parliament Energy Committee demands petrochemical companies to invest in the South Pars gas field to tackle the imbalance problem in the country.

In a public meeting held on Tuesday, April 19, the spokesperson of the Parliament's Energy Committee, Malik Shariatiniaser, demanded that petrochemical companies invest in the South Pars gas field to solve the imbalance problem and increase the pressure and stabilize the feedstock supply.

Shariatiniaser's comments came after the Energy Committee’s investigation into the Ministry of Petroleum’s performance in setting gas tariffs for household customers.

During the meeting, he emphasized that the Ministry of Petroleum and the Ministry of Energy are doing concentrated work in the fields of production, electricity, and gas. However, he noted that there is no centralized trustee in the field of energy consumption, and a specific proposal by the Energy Committee is to develop a double-mandate motion in the parliament to pursue this issue.

The plan could be in the form of amending the law and through Article 45 of the regulation or the 7th development plan, he proposed.

The Energy Committee's spokesperson suggested that the administration should create a strategic deputy for consumption management and a fuel consumption optimization company in the Ministry of Petroleum.

Additionally, energy efficiency in the Ministry of Energy and a national fuel and management headquarters in the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development should be established.

Shariatiniaser emphasized that the administration must pay attention to the complaints of the supreme leader of the revolution at the beginning of the year and meet with officials to discuss the intensity of energy consumption.

Furthermore, he urged the administration to fulfill the duty of state-run companies in the field of energy imbalance and implement it.

State companies and petrochemicals can invest to solve the imbalance problem and increase the pressure in the South Pars gas field and stabilize the feed, he added.

Shariatiniaser also highlighted the fact that the biggest waste of energy is in the field of institutions, organizations, and companies related to the administration.

He urged the administration to be strict in this regard to prevent energy waste.
