Iran produced 23.6mt of the products during the year's first half, showing a 5% rise year-on-year.
During the month of Mehr (7th months in Iranian calendar, September 23-October 22), the country's petrochemical output stood at 3.36mt with Shiraz (162,000t), Nouri, Laleh, Poli-Nar and Shazand (121,000t) plants being the top producers of petrochemical items during the month.
Moreover, 989,000 tons of the products, worth more than IRR 19,969bn were sold on the domestic market. The country also earned over $880.7m by exporting 1.83mt of products during the month.
Iran is expected to produce 47mt of petrochemical product by the end of the year provided that sufficient feedstock supplies are made available to the country's petrochemical units.
Currently, there are 67 semi-finished projects underway that their completion would raise the annual production of petrochemicals to 120 million tons in Iran.
The country plans to boost annual petrochemical production capacity to 180 million tons from around 60 million tons currently.
Once the semi-finished petrochemical projects are completed and a number of planned petrochemical units come on stream, the country’s petrochemical output will be increased to 180 million tons per year.
