TEHRAN (NIPNA) – West Ethylene Pipeline supplies 140 t/h of ethylene to 8 petrochemical plants in western Iran which is a new record in feedstock supplied to petrochemical plants, a senior petrochemical official said.

The director of production control at National Petrochemical Company (NPC), Ali-Mohammad Bossaqzadeh, said Arvand, Qadir, Rejal, Amir Kabir, Lorestan, Ilam, Mahabad and Kermanshah petrochemical plants are being fed by the feedstock supplied by the pipeline.

The supplies will boost once new pressure stations come on-stream on the pipeline's way like in Piaz Abad, he added.

Two pressure stations in the south western city of Ahvaz and western province of Kurdistan, which are crossed by the pipeline, will become operational within the next two months, he added.

West Ethylene Pipeline, under way from Assaluyeh in southern Iran to Tabriz is 2,450 kilometers long.

3mt of capacity is also expected to be added to the country's production capacity once the petrochemical plants along the West Ethylene pipeline come on-stream.

Initiated in 2002, the pipeline is to carry ethylene from Assaluyeh, south of Iran, to western provinces of Khuzestan, Lorestan, Chaharmahal Bakhtiari, Kohguiluyeh Boyer Ahmad, Kermanshah, Kurdestan, and West Azerbaijan.

The project has the capacity to carry 3.5 million tons of ethylene.

Phase 2 of West Ethylene pipeline will feed the petrochemical plants on its way from the natural gas recovered at South Pars phases.

More than 11 petrochemical plants are to be fed by the pipeline.
